Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a difficult period, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.
His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court after that period of that year.
Victory also means the Russian has achieved 21 championships at 21 different competitions.
"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.
"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in Halle in the past months.
His counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.
Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an better serve.
He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.
The pair swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.
He defended 4 early opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
